Redefiningthe Dream
Inspiring, engaging, and challenging Americans to re-examine their cultural values on consumption and consumerism and initiating a new national conversation around what “the good life” and the “American dream” mean.
Starting the Conversation

It's time for a new national conversation around what “the good life” and the “American Dream” mean. America has a rich tradition of using the arts, literature, and other cultural tools to help us challenge our basic assumptions and create new visions. How do we move away from an accumulation-oriented culture that views us mainly as consumers and begin to define ourselves as civic actors that can help create the future we want?
What is our new American Dream?
What are our collective values that shape it?
How do we build it?
New Dream is encouraging conversation and connection about how we can revive the American spirit for self-reliance and independence (from disposable and mass-produced goods), freedom (from crushing debt and overwork), and community (stronger social ties and civic engagement).
