If you had the time…
Did you know that Americans put in longer hours on the job than we did 50 years ago? That U.S. workers average fewer vacation days than their counterparts in all other industrial nations?
Useful and creative work can be vital to happiness, but millions of Americans are feeling overworked, over-scheduled and just plain stressed out. Keeping the work and spend treadmill going seems to have become the single-minded obsession of the American economy, while other values -- strong families and communities, good health and a clean environment, active citizenship and economic justice, time for nature and the soul -- are increasingly neglected.
That’s why the Center for a New American Dream is endorsing Take Back Your Time Day, a new campaign to challenge the epidemic of overwork, over-scheduling and time scarcity in America that plagues American families. Take Back Your Time Day seeks to initiate a much-needed national conversation about work/life balance and how we can reclaim it.
As we approach the annual Time Day, we want to know: What would you do if you had one more day to yourself each week? Reducing your workload may not be that simple. But what if you could take back one day a week? What would you do?
