2007 State Level Do Not Junk Proposals
During the 2007 legislative session, lawmakers in fourteen states proposed state-level Do Not Junk registries, more than triple the number in 2006. The bills vary, but all are based on the national Do Not Call registry, which itself was commissioned only after three dozen states initiated their own telemarketer registries. While the powerful ad mail lobby was able to delay or defeat the bills this year, momentum is clearly growing for 2008 and beyond.
Even though legislatures in most states have wrapped up for the year, you can still use the letter-writing resources below. Just personalize the letter and change it to say that you''d like to see a similar bill next winter.
Learn more about the state-level proposals and lend your support below...
Arkansas HB 2725

Michigan HB 4199

“The bill is similar to the [national] no-call list, and we felt it was needed because people, and seniors in particular, are being bombarded with mail, and the industry has not been able to regulate it.” – State Rep. Trent Skaggs.

New York A2520 and S1403
