Buy energy-efficient appliances now
Whether you are looking for a new DVD player, a dishwasher or a dehumidifier, looking for the Energy Star label is a good way to ensure that you are getting the most efficient appliances for your home. The Energy Star link below can take you exactly where you need to go. Just plug in your zip code and check off the appliance you are looking for, and the store locator will generate a list of the nearest places to get it.
Use the Energy Star Store Locator to find energy efficient appliances online or at a store near you
Tip: The locator will also search online sources. However, clicking “yes” in the “sells online” button, will produce a large number of online sources displayed first, before the local sources. To shop locally first, leave the “sells online” box checked “no.” If nothing satisfactory comes up, go back and check “yes” on the “sells online” option.
Why stop at the Stars? Shoot for the, er, Moon
The Energy Star locator shows where to shop in your area for Energy Star products. However, if you want the highest rated models, not just ones that make the cut, check out these ratings for select appliances by the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy and Consumer Report.

Why it’s important
Every time you buy a home appliance, tune up your heating system, or replace a burned-out light bulb, you're making a decision that affects the environment. Most of the electricity you use in your home is generated by burning polluting fossil fuels, especially coal. In fact, the energy we use in our homes causes more greenhouse gas emissions than driving our cars. The more electricity an appliance uses, the greater its environmental impact. Inefficient appliances not only use a lot of energy. In the long run they cost you money. Energy efficient choices can save families about a third on their energy bill with similar savings of greenhouse gas emissions.
