AM Inspiration: Mid-Week Simplicity...Ode to Life

Chilean poet Pablo Neruda may be known for his poetry about sublime love, but he wrote just as much about the simple things in life, especially in his "Elemental Odes" to things like lemons, ironing, and salt. What better poet to lead to a greater appreciation of wherever we happen to be on this "hump day." Neruda's "Ode to Life" is meant as an assurance that "Life's cup fills up with transparent brilliance" on a daily basis. Happy Wednesday.

Life,

you are

a complete instrument,,

happiness, sounds

of storm, tenderness

of mellow oil.

Life,

you are like a vineyard:

you treasure and dole out light-and share

in the fruits of transformation.

Whoever disowns you

should wait

a minute, a night,

a short or long year,

to emerge

from his mistaken solitude,

to search and fight, to join

hands with other hands.

Do not adopt, do not praise

misfortune,

Reject it, giving it the form

of a wall,

like the stonecutter with the stone.

Take scissors to misfortune,

and make

a pair of trousers...
